Summer Edition: Recharge, Reflect, and Prepare for Your Best Year Yet

Created by ADAC and grounded in research, this summer toolkit is designed to meet educators where they are, exhausted, accomplished, and ready for a reset, and guide them toward the new school year with renewed purpose and practical preparation.

The toolkit is organized into two sections.

  1. Recharge & Reflect – offering three tools for rest and self-awareness
The End-of-Year Reflection Journal walks teachers through structured prompts organized around what worked, what to release, and what to try next – a compassionate process that balances honest self-assessment with celebration of growth. The Wins Wall encourages educators to capture student breakthroughs, teaching successes, community connections, and personal victories before they fade from memory, drawing on positive psychology research showing that deliberately acknowledging achievements builds resilience and professional identity. The Mindfulness & Stress-Relief tool rounds out this section with six evidence-based practices, including box breathing, gratitude dumps, walking resets, and creative play, that can be used throughout the summer and carried into the classroom in the fall.
  2. Plan Ahead – shifts toward intentional preparation.
The Goal-Setting Framework invites teachers to write specific “I will…” intentions across four dimensions of their lives: professional practice, wellbeing, relationships, and personal growth with built-in accountability strategies to help those goals stick. The Curriculum Mapping tool provides a structured, three-step process for building a standards-aligned learning journey before the school year begins, transforming scattered ideas into a coherent plan. Finally, the Classroom Setup Checklist covers both the physical environment and systems and routines, and closes with first-week priorities centered on relationship-building, clear communication, and student voice.

Throughout, each tool includes a brief research rationale, practical tips, and links to editable templates. The toolkit is designed to be used flexibly, one tool at a time, in any order, and encourages sharing with colleagues, since reflection and goal-setting are more powerful in community.
